Today marks ten years since the signing of the justice agreement between Kosovo and Serbia.
The meeting between then-Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, and the Prime Minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, ended with the signing of the justice agreement. According to EU mediator Federica Mogherini, the agreement was reached around 2:00 AM, after midnight.
“A wonderful result in the resumption of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue! Thank you to both sides,” Mogherini had written on her former social media platform, Twitter (now X).
After the meeting, Mustafa stated that the agreement would enable the functioning of a unified justice system in Kosovo.
When asked if other topics were discussed during the dialogue, Mustafa said that no new issues would be raised without the dismantling of parallel institutions in the north, with a particular focus on ‘civil protection.’
Meanwhile, Vučić stated that with the agreement, Serbia and the Serbs of the north would win, as they would no longer be overrepresented, since the Mitrovica Court would have 9 Albanian prosecutors and 9 Serbian prosecutors.
On the other hand, the EU representative informed that both prime ministers would also cooperate on the issue of illegal migration from Kosovo.
