A 14-year-old boy of Kosovar descent, Len Fejzullahu, has been hailed as a hero in Germany for risking his life to save a schoolmate from an attacker wielding a hammer.
According to Friedberger Allgemeine, Len was in the schoolyard with two friends when a 15-year-old approached, dressed in military-style clothing and carrying a hammer. Initially, Len thought it was a prank, but the situation quickly turned dangerous.
The attacker struck one of Len’s friends on the head, seriously injuring him. When Len intervened, he was hit on the arm but managed to disarm the assailant by first striking his leg and then forcing him to the ground. Len and his injured friend then made it to the school entrance, where teachers quickly called the police and ambulance.
The 15-year-old attacker is in custody, facing charges of attempted murder and serious bodily harm. Investigators are also looking into possible extremist motives.
Len denied claims circulating on TikTok that the attacker had been bullied, stating he only knew him as a figure and emphasizing that the narrative would have been different if the attacker were foreign.
Len was invited to meet Mayor Roland Eichman in recognition of his bravery.
