Today marks 14 years since the Special Unit of the Kosovo Police (ROSU) launched an operation to bring the border crossing points in northern Kosovo, Jarinje and Bërnjak, under control.

A Fateful Mission for Rule of Law

On the morning of July 25, 2011, ROSU units set out towards the northern border points of Kosovo in an effort to secure them. However, ROSU encountered resistance from illegal Serb structures in the north, and during this operation, police officer Enver Zymberi was killed.

Former President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, posthumously awarded Enver Zymberi the title “Hero of Kosovo.” The motivation cited was “for the bravery and dedication shown, even to the point of sacrifice, for the establishment of the rule of law throughout the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo.”
