In Prekaz, a memorial plaque was installed displaying the names of 1,432 children who were killed in Kosovo by Serbian forces.
The names of the children were placed by students visiting the “Adem Jashari” Memorial Complex, marking the 27th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Jashari family.
From March 5 to 7, Kosovo commemorates the Epopee of the KLA, honoring Commander Adem Jashari and the three-day battle of the Jashari family in Prekaz.
On March 5, 1998, the third attack by Serbian forces on KLA Commander Adem Jashari, his family, and the Jashari neighborhood in Prekaz occurred. The fighting lasted for three days, from March 5 to 7. In the attack, 22 members of Adem Jashari’s immediate family, 33 from the neighborhood, and others were killed. Only Bashkim, the son of Rifat Jashari, and Besarta, the daughter of Hamza, managed to escape the assault.
The first attack on the Jashari family occurred on December 30, 1991, and the second was carried out by Serbian paramilitary forces in January 1998.
