Today marks 26 years since the massacre that took place during the night of February 3–4 in northern Mitrovica.
The so-called “Bridge Guards” killed ten Albanians, including children, women, and the elderly.
Many others were wounded, while around 12,000 Albanians were forcibly expelled, compelled to cross to the southern part of the city, leaving behind their homes set ablaze.
During the night between February 3 and 4, the following people were killed: Nezir and Shqipe Voca, Niman Sejdiu, Bashkim Rrukeci, Sebiha Abrashi, Selime Berisha, Muharrem Sokoli, Nderim Ajeti, Nerimane Xhaka, and Remzije Canhasi.
According to witnesses, the killing operation was led by Serbia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), headed by former commander Dragan Delibašić, Oliver Ivanović, and others.
In 2014, the Basic Court in Mitrovica found Oliver Ivanović guilty and sentenced him to nine years in prison for war crimes against Albanians during and after the war in Kosovo.
