Today, Kosovo commemorates the 27th anniversary of the “Epic of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK),” a pivotal moment in the nation’s struggle for freedom. The brutal Serbian offensive in Drenica in early March 1998 culminated in the siege of the Jashari family compound in Prekaz, marking a turning point in Kosovo’s fight for independence.

The heroic resistance of Commander Adem Jashari, his family, and fellow fighters not only defied Serbian forces but also thrust the Kosovo issue onto the global stage. Their sacrifice symbolized the unwavering determination for freedom, inspiring the nation and paving the way for Kosovo’s eventual independence.

To honor this legacy, a series of official events will take place, including a solemn government session, military ceremonies, and educational programs. President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti will participate in the official commemoration at the “Adem Jashari” Barracks in Prishtina, while nationwide tributes and memorial services will be held.

The commemorations will conclude on March 7 with the traditional “Night of Fires” in Prekaz and an artistic program in Skenderaj, celebrating the enduring spirit of Kosovo’s resistance.
