Abedin Rexha was a front-line fighter of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), known for his bravery and fearlessness until his last breath qualities that earned him the nickname “Sandokan” from his fellow soldiers.
He was born on July 8, 1969, in the village of Vajnik, Skenderaj municipality.
In early August 1998, the KLA General Staff appointed Abedin Rexha as Commander of the 112th Brigade “Arben Haliti” within the Drenica Operational Zone.
During August and September 1998, Commander “Sandokan” fought courageously in numerous battles. At the height of Serbia’s large-scale extermination offensives across all KLA operational zones — particularly in the Drenica area — on October 8, 1998, Commander Abedin Rexha, known as “Sandokan,” was killed in the forests of the village of Kllodernicë, Skenderaj.
Abedin Rexha left behind his wife and two children, Sokol and Selvete. His heroism has been immortalized through press articles, songs, and poems, while the school in Turiçec proudly bears his name.
