Today marks 27 years since the Rahovec Massacre, a tragic event on July 19, 1998, when a Serbian forces’ attack left many Albanians killed and wounded in Rahovec.
Brutal Killings and Civilian Casualties
During the assault, numerous women, children, and elderly people who sought refuge in the Teqe of Sheh Myhedini in Rahovec were brutally massacred. At a location known as “Tuba,” two professors and six charred bodies were found, bringing the total registered killed to 150 people.
Witnesses who survived the massacre recount that the Serbian army, police, and paramilitaries arbitrarily executed Albanian civilians.
Aftermath and Mass Burials
During this offensive, many Albanians were taken hostage or disappeared. On July 22, the Serbian authorities in Prizren opened two large graves in the city’s cemetery and buried the Albanians killed during the Rahovec offensive.
