Today marks the remembrance of the martyrs and victims from the neighborhoods of Skenderaj who fell on March 20, 1999.
The former mayor of Skenderaj, Bekim Jashari, wrote that shortly after the withdrawal of international observers from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe mission, Serbian criminals dressed in white clothing and black masks began looting and mistreating civilians in Skenderaj. They later separated men from women, taking the men to a pine forest where they were executed.
A total of 29 civilians disappeared without a trace.
