34 years since the violent closure of RTP, Maloku: It was the only voice of the people

The closure of RTP, 34 years ago, by the Serbian totalitarian regime, was an attack on Albanian information with a tendency to extinguish and suppress the popular demands of the Albanians in Kosovo in the 90s, while the only window of information was closed violently by the Serbian regime, which brought informational terror to Kosovo.

However, former RTP journalist Enver Maloku says that journalists found alternatives to inform the public.

“At those moments, I was inside the TVP studios when the police forces intervened and violently interrupted a newspaper that went to the entire network of Yugoslavia then in the Albanian language. All that arsenal, all those police forces, intervened armed, while we had a pencil, a letter, as the journalist’s only weapon”, said Maloku.

Maloku says that RTP was the only voice and sight of the people. But even though it was closed, journalists created alternatives to inform the people and the world about the developments taking place in Kosovo.

However, absolute informational terror did not happen, as other 5-minute alternatives were found on Radio Zagreb and the satellite program on RTSH, where the truth spread through these waves as well”, he said.

Journalist Maloku has a message for young journalists.

“I think it is quite normal that there have been refreshes and refreshes, the arrival of new staff. Public television, so to speak, continues its normal journey. Yes, that well-known maxim, objective and true information, this would be my suggestion”, added Maloku.

With the closing of the only television in the 90s, the Serbian state did not allow the opening of any other television for a decade.radio
