6.1-Magnitude Earthquake in Turkey: 330 Aftershocks Felt, 26 Injured

Over 300 aftershocks were reported in Turkey following a 6.1-magnitude earthquake. The quake, with its epicenter near the city of Balıkesir, occurred on Monday evening. A total of 26 people were injured as they tried to evacuate the areas where they were located.

According to the Turkish Seismological Service, the earthquake struck at 22:48 local time on Monday and was felt across several provinces, including Balıkesir, Izmir, Bursa, Istanbul, Tekirdag, Kocaeli, and Sakarya.

In the aftermath, 330 aftershocks were recorded over approximately 13 hours, from 22:48 Monday evening until 11:00 Tuesday morning. Among these, 12 aftershocks registered a magnitude of 4.0 or higher.

In the affected areas, 26 citizens were hospitalized with minor injuries, and the Turkish Interior Minister reported that all have since been discharged.

The emergency response operation mobilized 1,204 personnel from various Turkish services to manage the aftermath of the earthquake.
