Prime Minister Edi Rama announces that 90% of parents agree with the closure of TikTok in Albania, following a survey conducted by the Ministry of Education.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has revealed that a staggering 90% of parents are in favor of banning TikTok in Albania, based on a survey conducted by the Ministry of Education. The survey followed 1,300 meetings held across the country, with 65,000 parents participating.

Rama shared the results of the survey on his official Facebook page, stating: “Good morning, and with the decision made from 1,300 meetings organized nationwide by the Ministry of Education, where 65,000 parents participated, as well as from the survey conducted where over 90% of parents called for the closure of access to TikTok in Albania, I wish you a peaceful Sunday.”

Just a day earlier, the Prime Minister expressed relief that a concrete plan had been devised for the short-term closure of TikTok for one year. “I feel relieved today that, after a broad and inclusive discussion with all stakeholders directly involved in the field of education and child safety, we have a concrete product with specific measures and the assurance that by implementing this plan, we will have a better and safer educational system,” Rama added.

Following public consultation, the Minister of Education, Ogerta Manastirliu, confirmed that TikTok would be blocked as part of a broader strategy to enhance both physical and digital security in schools. “To improve Physical and Digital Security in Schools, we have decided to block TikTok, based on a set of tools being developed by AKCESK and AKSHI. We will also implement intelligent cameras through the ‘Smart City’ project with the United Arab Emirates, ensuring more effective monitoring within schools and their security perimeters,” said Minister Manastirliu.

The move to block TikTok has sparked mixed reactions, but it highlights ongoing concerns over children’s safety and online content access in the country.
