British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met in Munich with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, where they reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collective defense in the face of increasing threats to European security.

The two leaders agreed that Europe must take significant steps toward a more European-focused NATO while maintaining strong transatlantic ties. Starmer emphasized the ambition for a deeper partnership between the United Kingdom and the EU, with a focus on the economy, defense, and technology.

They also pledged to intensify negotiations on a food and beverages agreement, an emissions trading scheme, and a youth experience program, ahead of the upcoming UK–EU summit.
