Former Serbian Ambassador to the USA, Marko Đurić, in a post on his profile on “X,” has criticized the rapporteur for Kosovo at the Council of Europe, Dora Bakoyannis, after she stated that no other state has been asked to meet the criteria imposed on Kosovo.
Đurić, who has returned to Belgrade to serve Vučić in propaganda, mentioned the obligations arising from the Brussels Agreement and also from the Ohrid discussions, and according to the Serbian politician, Bakoyannis “does not see these violations.”
“She now emphasizes that no other candidate for membership in the Council of Europe has been asked to meet as many criteria as Kurti’s regime,” Đurić wrote.
Furthermore, with resentment towards Bakoyannis, Đurić has said that based on what criteria Bakoyannis supports the membership of the ethno-nationalist government of Kurti in the Council of Europe.
“I would really like to know, if possible, what exactly those criteria are based on which she now supports the membership of Kurti’s government in the Council of Europe. Is it perhaps the total ban on the entry of Serbian goods into Kosovo* for 11 months? Is it the illegal ban on the use of the Serbian dinar, resulting in hospitals in Serbian-majority areas lacking medicines and medical supplies, and doctors, nurses, and mothers not receiving salaries, care for children, or pensions? Are these criteria perhaps the extrajudicial arrests (publicly mentioned several times by Josep Borrell and other EU and US officials), or is it the brutal suppression to which the Serbs of Kosovo are subjected every day?” Đurić wrote.
In conclusion, Đurić said that “Support for the membership of Kurti’s government is a shameful stain that cannot be justified. One for which I am deeply convinced is not in the interest of the Greek people or the Serbian people.” Vučić’s joint attack with Đurić underscores the intensity of their opposition to Bakoyannis’s stance on Kosovo’s Council of Europe membership.
