Police have arrested the brother of the King of the United Kingdom, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
The BBC has learned that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
Andrew, who turned 66 today, was detained at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk on Thursday, according to Thames Valley Police.
He has once again come under heightened scrutiny and investigation following the recent release of materials from the so-called “Epstein files,” which have reportedly shed new light on his connection with the late convicted sex offender.
Police stated that they are not disclosing the identity in accordance with national guidelines.
“It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to examine this alleged criminal offense. We understand the significant public interest in this case and will provide updates in due course,” British police said.
Sir Keir Starmer became the latest high-profile figure to increase pressure on Andrew on Thursday, joining calls for him to formally testify regarding his connections.
Speaking to BBC Breakfast, the Prime Minister insisted that “no one is above the law” and stated: “Anyone who has any information should come forward.”
“So whether it is Andrew or anyone else, anyone with relevant information should appear before the appropriate authority. In this particular case we are talking about Epstein, but there are many other cases as well.”
