Norway has announced the withdrawal of its troops from Iraq due to escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Brynjar Stordal, spokesperson for the Norwegian Armed Forces (FOH), told the Norwegian broadcaster NRK that approximately 60 Norwegian soldiers had been stationed in Iraq and Jordan. He confirmed that troops are being pulled out of Iraq as a result of the growing instability in the region.
Stordal described the measure as temporary and did not provide details regarding the exact number of personnel withdrawn or their new location. He added that some Norwegian forces remain deployed in various areas and are subject to specific security assessments.
“They took this step due to threats and tensions in the region,” Stordal stated.
Meanwhile, the military of the United States has deployed a broad range of forces across the Middle East, including two aircraft carriers, fighter jets, and refueling tanker aircraft.
U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that Iran has 10 to 15 days to reach an agreement regarding its nuclear program.
