Čedomir Stojković, a prominent Serbian attorney, has been in detention for over a month following allegations of revealing state secrets regarding the termination of a contract between the company “Škoda” and the Security Intelligence Agency (BIA).

Speaking to Nova.rs through his lawyer from detention, Stojković claimed that his imprisonment is an attempt to silence criticism of the government.

“My detention is not just about silencing my criticism of the authorities; it also threatens my livelihood. This is the latest in a series of attacks on me and my law office, which supports my family. While this isolation affects my health, it pains me most to be separated from my son,” Stojković said.

He emphasized that the true reason for his detention is the criminal complaint he filed against Aleksandar Vučić regarding the “Sarajevo Safari” case.

“It is a major blow to the legal profession that all of this is happening because of my complaint against Vučić. The authorities have used laws to instrumentalize the judiciary, imprisoning critics and those who expose government abuses. This is no longer only my issue or a matter of professional concern; it is a matter of violating the constitutionally guaranteed rights of every individual in this country,” he added.

Previously, Stojković had been under house arrest for allegedly “inciting violent change of the constitutional order,” which was later replaced with full detention on February 28. He was sent to the District Prison in Bačvanska Street, following a proposal from the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade investigating him for publishing state secrets.

The immediate cause cited was his public post on social media platform X, reporting that Škoda had terminated its contract with BIA for vehicle maintenance services, leading to his incarceration over what appeared to be a routine administrative matter.
