The joint meeting of the chief negotiators of Kosovo and Serbia, Besnik Bislim and Petar Petkovic, has started, with the mediation of the European emissary Miroslav Lajcak, where the discussions continue on what is called the “issue of the dinar”.

This is the seventh meeting in a row as part of the dialogue, where the only topic is being addressed – the ways of implementing the CBK Regulation regarding cash payments. From February 1, according to the CBK Regulation, the only currency for cash payments is the euro.

This regulation has caused new tensions in the Prishtina-Belgrade relationship, but it has also encountered criticism from the International Community, which has asked the official Prishtina to postpone the implementation of the regulation.

Like other times, this time too it is hoped that this will be the last meeting and that an agreement will be reached for a temporary solution regarding the implementation of the regulation. Meanwhile, on May 12, the transitional period of the CBK for this regulation passed.

European emissary Miroslav Lajçak already in March presented a compromise solution, which was acceptable to the Kosovar side. There are no details about the content of the proposal, but it is said that it is still on the table.

Lajçak himself has recently made it known through social networks that he expects a constructive approach from the parties in today’s meeting, in order to find a way to move forward.
