A documentary novel commemorating the victims of one of the most tragic massacres during the Kosovo war has been published to mark the 27th anniversary of the killings in Poklek i Vjetër.
The publication, titled Revolta e Syzifit, is authored by Bardhyl Mahmuti and has been released by the organization Qendra “Gjenocidi në Kosovë – Plagë e Hapur”. The book aims to preserve the memory of victims and document the atrocities committed during the Kosovo conflict of 1998–1999.
The novel focuses on the massacre carried out on April 17, 1999, in the village of Poklek i Vjetër, in the municipality of Drenas, where Serbian armed forces killed numerous Albanian civilians. The event is widely regarded as one of the most horrific crimes of the war.
According to organizers, the book serves both as a literary work and a historical testimony, shedding light on the scale of violence and the human suffering endured during the conflict.
The official promotion of the novel is scheduled for April 17, 2026, in Drenas, followed by a second event on April 18 in Prishtina. The dates coincide with the anniversary commemorations of the victims.
The organizing center also expressed gratitude to donors whose contributions made the publication possible, emphasizing the importance of continued remembrance and documentation of war crimes in Kosovo.
The release of the novel underscores ongoing efforts to preserve historical memory and ensure that the events of the Kosovo war remain part of public awareness and collective reflection.
