Natalija Stojmenović, head of the Green-Left Front (ZLF) council group in the Belgrade City Assembly, condemned ongoing safety failures in construction projects managed by the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) after a worker was killed in a crane accident at the new bridge over the Sava River in Belgrade.
“This is tragic because this is a state construction site, a government project. The state failed to protect workers, and the SNS-led government will not protect us tomorrow either. SNS construction continues to kill,” Stojmenović said on social media platform X.
She noted that over the past five years, more than 240 people have died at work in Serbia, with over half of these fatalities occurring on construction sites.
Stojmenović extended her condolences to the family of the deceased worker.
According to media reports, one worker died and two others were injured when a crane carrying a 350-ton metal structure collapsed at the construction site near Branko’s Bridge in Belgrade.
