Acting Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Eva Palatova, has called for the rapid formation of institutions following the June 7 elections, stressing the need for political compromise among parties, particularly regarding the election of the country’s president.
Speaking during activities marking Europe Day, Palatova said the European Union expects Kosovo to establish a stable government with a strong parliamentary majority in order to continue implementing reforms tied to the European agenda.
“We need to see a swift formation of institutions, with a government that has a strong majority in parliament and the ability to generate healthy interparty compromises to elect the president and continue reforms,” she stated.
According to her, such institutional stability is important not only for the country’s internal functioning, but also for advancing Kosovo’s path toward European integration.
Palatova also emphasized Kosovo’s multiethnic character, describing it as a significant value for EU member states.
“All our capitals are observing the preservation of this multiethnic character and constructive engagement with all communities, so that every citizen of Kosovo, regardless of ethnicity, feels they have a home and a future here,” she said.
Her remarks come as Kosovo enters the final stage of the election campaign ahead of the June 7 vote, while the issue of forming a parliamentary majority and electing a president is increasingly seen as one of the country’s key post-election political challenges.
