Security expert Nuredin Ibishi has weighed in on the recent death threats directed at Prime Minister Albin Kurti by the “Northern Brigade” (Severna Brigada), asserting that the terrorist organization is backed by Serbian and Russian intelligence services.

Ibishi emphasized that threats from a designated terrorist entity must be treated with the utmost seriousness, particularly given the current fragile security climate in the region.

Intelligence Influence and Regional Stability

According to Ibishi, the timing and nature of these threats are not coincidental but are part of a broader strategy of destabilization orchestrated from abroad.

“Every threat is serious, but the reality is that the ‘Northern Brigade’ has been declared a terrorist organization. These threats emerge from entities that have Serbian and Russian intelligence in the background,” Ibishi stated.

He urged Kosovo’s investigative and security institutions to prioritize cases involving terrorist threats to prevent any potential escalation or efforts to destabilize the country.

Strategic Partnerships: The Role of Turkey

Beyond the immediate security threats, Ibishi also commented on the significance of Defense Minister Ejup Maqedonci’s official visit to Turkey, describing Ankara as a vital strategic partner for Kosovo.

Ibishi highlighted several key areas of cooperation:

  • NATO Integration: Turkey remains a vocal supporter of Kosovo’s path toward NATO membership.
  • Military Procurement: Strategic agreements with Turkey have facilitated the acquisition of advanced military equipment for the Kosovo Security Force (KSF).
  • Diplomatic Synergy: The relationship transcends standard diplomacy, evolving into a robust defense partnership that bolsters Kosovo’s standing in the Balkans.

“Turkey is a strategic partner for us,” Ibishi noted. “In addition to political and diplomatic relations, they are a primary supporter in the field of security and the purchase of military equipment.”

Security Context

The expert’s comments come just hours after the Kosovo Police traced the digital origin of the threat against PM Kurti to Kraljevo, Serbia. Security analysts suggest that the intersection of domestic threats and international defense cooperation underscores the complex geopolitical challenges currently facing the Republic of Kosovo.
