Continuing his official visit to Germany, Acting Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti was received today by high-ranking representatives of the Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).
The visit, which included several high-level diplomatic meetings, focused on expanding parliamentary relations and leveraging Germany’s industrial heartland to bolster Kosovo’s economic and educational sectors.
Key Diplomatic Encounters
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Kurti was first welcomed by:
- Hartmut Ganzke: Spokesperson of the Main Committee from the SPD.
- Stefan Engstfeld: Chairman of the Committee for Europe and International Affairs.
- Jochen Ott: Head of the SPD Parliamentary Group.
The visit concluded with a significant protocol honor, as Kurti was invited to sign the Golden Book of the NRW Parliament, a tradition reserved for high-ranking international guests.
Areas of Strategic Cooperation
The discussions spanned several critical sectors, reflecting the diverse interests of the Kosovar diaspora in the region and NRW’s status as a global industrial leader.
1. Parliamentary Diplomacy & Diaspora
Kurti emphasized the role of the large Kosovar diaspora in NRW as a “living bridge.” The focus was on transforming this social link into a more robust economic and trade partnership between the two regions.
2. Infrastructure and Regional Airports
A unique point of discussion involved infrastructure and mobility. Both sides highlighted the importance of regional airports in driving economic development and improving cross-border connectivity, particularly for the diaspora and business travelers.
3. Energy and Industry
Given that North Rhine-Westphalia is Germany’s premier energy and industrial hub, Kurti discussed potential collaborations in the energy sector. Kosovo aims to learn from NRW’s expertise as it seeks to modernize its own energy infrastructure and move toward sustainable industrial practices.
4. Education and Academic Exchange
The meetings also addressed the “human capital” element of the partnership. Proposals were discussed for:
- Expanding scholarship programs for Kosovar students.
- Increasing academic exchanges between Kosovar universities and NRW’s renowned technical institutions.

| Parliamentary | Strengthening ties between the Kosovo Assembly and NRW Parliament. |
