President Bajram Begaj has reacted to the citizens’ protest, stating that people are expressing their concerns in a peaceful manner.
In his statement, he emphasized that “the right to express oneself in accordance with the Constitution is a protected value.”
“This activity is taking place at a moment when citizens are publicly expressing their concerns and expectations in a peaceful manner. In respect of my constitutional position and constitutional neutrality, I can emphasize that the right to express oneself and participate in public life is a value protected by the Constitution, which must be exercised in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of the country.
The consolidation of democracy and the sustainable development of the country rely on the joint engagement of citizens and institutions to act in accordance with the Constitution and the national and public interest. The constitutional framework, together with the rules of the rule of law and democracy, constitute the main guarantee for the proper functioning of society.
As President of the Republic, I remain committed to the protection of the Constitution, the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens, as well as to promoting a climate of cooperation and dialogue that serves the national interest and the public good, the European future, and the Euro-Atlantic values and orientation of the country.
Dear participants, this anniversary invites us to reflect on the importance that public administration has for citizens. We must demand more from ourselves, and also from public service officials. We must improve quality, because by improving quality we strengthen trust,” said Begaj.
