The Catalan party “Junts per Catalunya” which is represented in the Parliament of Spain sent today a parliamentary proposal to the Parliament of Spain where they ask the Government of Spain to recognize Kosovo as an independent state.
Gazeta Express has provided the proposal of the Catalan party which has supported the creation of the new Government of Pedro Sanchez, in which it is stated that in support of the efforts made by the institutions of Kosovo to protect the right to exist as an independent state, the state the Spanish must give up its rejectionist position and immediately recognize the Republic of Kosovo.
“From “Junts per Catalunya”, we have expressed our position in favor of the necessary recognition of Kosovo as a sovereign state. We have also shown our support for the recent resolutions of the European Parliament, and specifically the last two of 2023, which call on the five member states of the European Union to recognize Kosovo now and allow Kosovo to progress on the European path without delay further on an equal basis with other candidate countries. And showing concern over the fact that some member states are using institutional tools to complicate the integration process in the region, including that of Kosovo. The Spanish government has today sent a parliamentary proposal to the Spanish Parliament, asking the Government of Spain to recognize Kosovo. as an independent state.
For this reason, but also in support of the efforts being made by the institutions and the people of Kosovo to protect their right to exist as an independent state, the Spanish state must give up its rejection and immediately recognize the Republic of Kosovo”, says the document provided by Gazeta Express.
The non-legislative proposal is named “The Congress of Deputies asks the Government to recognize the Republic of Kosovo as a sovereign state”.
In a conversation with the Express newspaper in December 2023 when the creation of the new Government of Spain was discussed, the party of the Catalan leader Carles Pudigemont had announced that they would ask the Parliament for the Government of Spain to recognize Kosovo as a state.
“As his chief of staff, I can tell you that we have always followed the Kosovo issue with great interest and have always asked the Spanish government to fully recognize Kosovo and an independent nation. In this new parliamentary mandate, we will once again insist that Spain recognize Kosovo, but let me say that the President’s political party, Junts per Catalunya, is not part of the Spanish cabinet. We give support to this Government only from abroad and we do not have the capacity to decide on the issue of recognition of Kosovo by Spain”, Puidgemont’s chief of staff, Josep Alay, told the Express newspaper.
