Detention Sought for Two Espionage Suspects in Ferizaj

The Special Prosecutor’s Office has submitted a request for a 30-day detention for the two suspects, B.S., and M.Q.

The request was submitted to the Court of Pristina today, June 6, 2023, and no later than tomorrow, June 7, 2024, a hearing will be held to decide on the prosecutor’s request.

This was confirmed to Kallxo.com by the spokesperson of the Special Prosecutor’s Office, Liridona Kozmaqi.

“A request for the determination of detention for the two suspects has been made,” said Liridona Kozmaqi from the Special Prosecutor’s Office.

Additionally, the Special Prosecutor’s Office of Kosovo, in cooperation with the Police and the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (AKI), arrested two individuals in Ferizaj on Wednesday on suspicion of espionage.

Muharrem Qerimi and Bedri Shabani were arrested on suspicion of collaborating with the Serbian Intelligence Agency (BIA).

Meanwhile, the Kosovo Police, through its daily report, provided details regarding the arrest of the two espionage suspects in Ferizaj.

The report states that weapons, ammunition, and military gas masks were confiscated at the two suspects’ locations.

“During the search at the location of the two male Kosovar suspects, various documents, computers, phones, USB drives, DVRs, tapes, weapons, ammunition, masks, military gas masks, and many other pieces of evidence were found and seized as material evidence. The two suspects were arrested and, by the decision of the prosecutor, were taken into custody,” the Kosovo Police report states.

Additionally, yesterday, the Kosovar citizens with the initials M.Q. and B.S. were arrested on suspicion of espionage with the Serbian Intelligence Agency (BIA) following a multi-month investigation by the Special Prosecutor’s Office in cooperation with the Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (AKI).

The Kosovo Customs also reacted after the arrest of the two individuals in Ferizaj on suspicion of the criminal offense of “espionage.”

In a statement to the media, the Kosovo Customs clarified that one of the arrested individuals, identified by the initials B.S., had been employed in this institution but was dismissed 20 years ago, specifically in early 2004.

According to the Kosovo Customs, B.S. was dismissed due to violations of the Customs Code of Conduct, which were related to unauthorized communications with the mass media.
