Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti is seeking another meeting with LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku following a new development that has complicated efforts to secure support for Bekim Sejdiu’s candidacy for president.
Kurti spoke after meeting with the parliamentary group of the Vetëvendosje Movement, where lawmakers discussed the latest situation after six LDK MPs publicly stated that they would not vote for Sejdiu.
Kurti described the development as a new political circumstance requiring further consultations with Abdixhiku and Vetëvendosje’s leadership.
He said the initial position of the LDK leadership had been encouraging, but that the subsequent announcement by six LDK MPs had changed the situation.
“This is a new situation. It requires me to meet again with the LDK chairman and return to the Vetëvendosje leadership to discuss the new path we need to take forward,” Kurti said.
According to Kurti, all Vetëvendosje MPs remain committed to supporting Sejdiu’s candidacy for the presidency.
He also criticized the six LDK lawmakers who oppose Sejdiu, calling their position irresponsible and unreasonable.
Kurti warned that failure to elect a president and a subsequent return to the polls would be unnecessary and harmful for Kosovo, urging continued political consultations in an effort to prevent another escalation of the political deadlock.
The latest developments have placed renewed pressure on the leaders of the two parties to find a political solution and secure the necessary support for the presidential process.
