The head of Slovakia’s Liaison Office in Pristina, Rastislav Kostilnik, today asked Kosovo and Serbia to implement the Brussels agreement and the Ohrid annex.

He said that the basic agreement is the best possible that could be negotiated for the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations.

“The Brussels agreement and its now implementation plan is the best we could negotiate. I believe that if we take the definition of politics as the art of achieving, the deal is the best we can get, right? Because yes, both parties can sketch a better deal for themselves, but we need the consent of the other party. Another thing, another point in this regard, is that since both sides are somewhat reluctant to implement it, I believe we have good agreement. And from the point of view of time when we consider 2013, which started implementation in 2015, we are still on a good path, obviously there is no better alternative than implementation,” he said.

Speaking about the relations between Kosovo and Slovakia, which is one of the five EU countries that have not yet recognized independence, the Slovak diplomat said that he hopes that they will advance.

“I would also like to reflect on bilateral relations. During these five and a half years in my office and in the administration of Kosovo, we started to dance, it was the first clumsy dance at first, then somehow we sang the melody, we even managed to have my prime minister or my former prime minister meet the lady president, and now for unfortunately somehow there are not very favorable tunes, but I believe that in the future we can start and be a little more advanced, so maybe there could be a positive dynamic if the situation were to change”, he said.

He made these comments at the exhibition, “Art through the angle of a diplomat” at the end of his journey as a diplomat of the Liaison Office of Slovakia in Kosovo.
