United States President Donald Trump has reacted to the violent protests sweeping across France, calling on French authorities to take measures to restore law and order and ensure public safety.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump commented on footage of the unrest recorded on Saturday, October 17.

“France is burning!” the US president wrote, also urging France to close its borders and take control of the situation.

His remarks came following demonstrations in several French cities, where protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the rising cost of living, conditions in the education system and the state of public services.

The protests, initially sparked by students’ demands for better conditions in schools, have expanded to encompass broader social and economic grievances.

Demonstrations were reported in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux and other French cities.

While many citizens protested peacefully, clashes with police, vehicle fires and property damage were reported in several areas.

French journalist and commentator Agnès Poirier has claimed that peaceful youth protests were infiltrated by far-left provocateurs. This remains her assessment and has not been independently confirmed.

Meanwhile, Trump’s call to close the borders has drawn attention as French authorities face mounting tensions and growing demands to address social grievances.
