The Spanish Parliament votes on Tuesday the initiative of the group of Catalan deputies, Junts for Catalonia, which asks the government of Madrid to recognize the independence of Kosovo.
In their proposal, Catalan legislators list facts and arguments in defense of recognition, including the decision of the International Court of Justice, according to which Kosovo’s independence does not constitute a violation of international law.
Eman Rramani, deputy of the ruling majority in Kosovo, estimates that such a step is very important, after the recognition of the passport and other documents from Spain.
“Diplomacy and all institutions, the parliament, the government, the presidency must continue lobbying, so that this initiative becomes concrete, with a positive result with recognition, as we consider it very important from Spain, for the importance of this country,” he said.
The initiative, which will be debated on Tuesday, argues that Kosovo is a legal and democratic state, with 1.7 million inhabitants, which is recognized as independent by more than 100 countries, including 22 EU members.
