The American President, Joe Biden, addressed the leaders of the NATO countries during a speech in Washington, where he spoke about the unity of the alliance against the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
Biden, on the 75th anniversary of the founding of this military organization, said that NATO is the largest and most effective alliance in the history of the world.
Not far after starting his speech, Biden mentioned intervening in the Balkans to stop ethnic cleansing.
“When war broke out in the Balkans, we intervened to restore peace and stop ethnic cleansing,” Biden said to the Secretary General, leaders of NATO countries, foreign and defense ministers, and representatives from the Union’s partner countries. European and members of Congress at the NATO Summit.
Biden said that NATO evolved strategies to face threats and increase effectiveness.
“Today, NATO is stronger than ever: 32 nations strong. For years, Finland and Sweden were among our closest partners. Now they have chosen to officially join NATO”, the American president said, among other things.
He emphasized that “NATO’s character is fundamentally democratic, it always has been and it should always continue to be”.
