It is “strange” that the gunman was able to open fire on the scene before the Secret Service killed him, says the FBI special agent, analyzing the assassination attempt on the former US president, writes The Guardian.
An Associated Press analysis of more than a dozen videos and photos from the scene of Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, as well as satellite images, show the suspected attacker was able to get surprisingly close to the stage.
The roof where his body lay was less than 150 meters from where Trump was speaking.
Asked at a news conference whether law enforcement didn’t know the gunman was on the roof until he opened fire, Kevin Rojek, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office, replied that “that’s our assessment at this moment”.
It’s strange that the gunman was able to open fire on the scene before the Secret Service killed him, he said.
Of the shooting, Donald Trump said he was shot in the upper right ear.
The Secret Service said one person was killed in public and two others were seriously injured.
Officers killed the attacker at the scene.
