Prime Minister Albin Kurti highlights that 10 years ago, Serbia’s Ministry of Defense declared documents concerning the activities of the 37th Motorized Brigade of the Yugoslav Army in Kosovo as state secrets. This decision, made on July 31, 2014, obstructs the revelation of painful truths about the killings of Albanian civilians and the concealment of their bodies in mass graves in Serbia.
In a Facebook post, Kurti emphasized that based on the agreement reached on May 2 last year in Brussels, Kosovo reiterates its demand for the opening of the archives in Serbia.
“We have already sent several requests regarding the opening of the archives of the 37th Motorized Brigade of the Yugoslav Army, responsible for many massacres in the Drenica region.”
“The decision of the Serbian state to classify these documents as secret for 30 years is an attempt to hide the crimes committed. It is also a clear indicator that Serbia, while standing over the graves of murdered Albanian civilians, has shown no sign of remorse for the atrocities committed in Kosovo,” Kurti writes.
He further states that this act constitutes a violation of human rights, the right of families to know the truth, and hinders efforts to bring justice. Additionally, by keeping these documents hidden, Serbia is not distancing itself from the Milosevic regime and its genocidal crimes in Kosovo.
“Only through the illumination of the truth and holding the perpetrators of crimes accountable can justice and lasting peace in the region be achieved,” the Prime Minister further emphasizes in his post.
