The bridge over the Ibër River in Mitrovica may soon be opened to vehicle traffic, according to recent announcements from the Government of Kosovo.
The government, led by Albin Kurti, recently awarded a contract for testing the bridge’s capacity to support vehicular traffic.
The winning company is “IPE-PROING.” On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, the company’s workers began conducting measurements of the bridge.
They declined to comment to kallxo.com and refused to provide details over the phone.
“What does it matter to you what my workers are doing? This is a private company, and it’s none of your concern. They’re out working… Go to the government; you have no right to call me,” said a representative from “IPE-PROING” over the phone.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Infrastructure published the contract through an electronic platform, titled “Determining the Load-Bearing Capacity of the Existing Ibër River Bridge Structure in Mitrovica, with Test Loads.”
The contract value is €9,640.
Since discussions began about the possibility of reopening the Ibër Bridge, foreign representatives in Kosovo have opposed the idea.
