International pressure is mounting for the prosecution of Milan Radoičić, the leader of the terrorist attack in Banjska, Zvečan. As the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Serbia approaches—though the exact date is still unknown—this issue is becoming increasingly politically significant for the Serbian government, emphasizes Rada Trajković from the European Movement of Serbs in Kosovo.
“One of the primary demands is that Radoičić be brought to justice, or that we see some results regarding what happened in Banjska. It’s important that the process begins, gains momentum, and reaches its conclusion. The actions of the Russian service are also connected to Radoičić’s name, and everything that threatens the survival of these few Serbs. Therefore, everyone with good intentions should actively work to expose Radoičić and the organization behind him,” said Trajković.
Regarding the Banjska attack, there are still no results from the investigations. Although Radoičić admitted to organizing the attack and was arrested, he was quickly released. The High Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade suspects the purchase of weapons, but it is still unclear whether an indictment will be filed.
Lawyer Aleksandar Olenik states that the delay in the process has political reasons.
“Radoičić admitted to the actions, but not the legal qualification. He was not detained, but his travel documents were confiscated. This means the prosecution can file an indictment whenever it wants and proceed with the case. However, this now becomes a political issue because it will be decided by Aleksandar Vučić’s political order, as well as external pressure,” said Olenik.
In Belgrade, it is believed that Serbian authorities are buying time before the international community. The West continues to demand Radoičić’s prosecution so that Serbia, by punishing those connected to the state, can demonstrate that it did not support the attack in Banjska.
