The municipality of Prishtina, in collaboration with the public enterprise “Prishtina Parking,” has launched an ambitious project titled “Smart City” to transform the infrastructure of the capital.
This project includes the installation of parking sensors, “smart” poles that will provide traffic information, and the establishment of bike-sharing stations.
Sokol Havolli, the CEO of Prishtina Parking, told Kosovapress that the initiative aims to reduce environmental pollution and traffic congestion while offering new transportation alternatives.
“There will be 10 bike stations strategically placed throughout the city to facilitate travel from one point to another. This will ease the transportation of citizens using this alternative method. The objectives of Mayor Përparim Rama and the city’s institutions are to reduce traffic and pollution, improve air quality, and offer new transportation alternatives in the capital,” Havolli stated.
Havolli explained that with the implementation of sensors and digital signage, citizens will find it easier to locate available parking spaces.
“About 500 sensors and 12 smart poles have been installed, which continuously communicate and provide monitoring information to Prishtina Parking. With these sensors and digital signage, citizens will no longer need to drive around neighborhoods to find a parking spot. The information will be available at neighborhood entrances, major city roads, and through digital devices. This will automatically eliminate the need for citizens to search for parking spots as the information will be displayed on smart boards, making the process automatic,” he said.
Havolli also mentioned future plans to implement a new regulation for resident parking.
“In the future, we certainly aim to precisely implement the new regulation, which will offer significant advantages to resident inhabitants. The regulation includes creating different parking segments so that during specific hours, especially in the afternoons, parking within neighborhoods will be reserved exclusively for residents and not for visitors,” he added.
Additionally, the bike-sharing service is expected to begin next week.
