The Special Prosecution Office of Kosovo filed an indictment on Monday at the Basic Court in Pristina against two individuals of Serbian nationality, suspected of committing war crimes against the civilian population.
According to the statement released by the Prosecution, the defendants are accused of committing murder, torture, inhumane treatment, intimidation, destruction of property, mass expulsion, and ethnic cleansing of the Albanian civilian population in the Municipality of Istog during the Kosovo war.
“The defendants are also accused of events involving the Salihaj, Imeraj, Lipa, and Pepaj families, among others. Investigations have revealed that during the period relevant to this indictment, there were two cases of sexual violence against victims of Albanian nationality. Additionally, the investigations confirmed that during the war period, in the Municipality of Istog, approximately 5,000 houses were burned, around 250 people were killed, including 19 child victims, along with many other material damages,” the statement says.
The defendants are currently under detention as ordered by the Pre-Trial Judge, pending a new decision by the court.
