President Vjosa Osmani said that the Kosovo police has the right to be at any time and in any corner of the territory of Kosovo, including the north of the country, and that this is a constitutional and legal obligation.

The presence of members of the special unit in the North, Osmani said that it cannot be called a dispatch, as this term is used only if forces are sent to another country.

“I wouldn’t call it a dispatch because a dispatch can only be said if we send forces to another country. The Kosovo police has the right to be at any time and in any corner of the territory of Kosovo, it has a constitutional and legal obligation, it has this mandate to be present everywhere. So we do not send police, the police are there because it is their duty to be in every corner of Kosovo. It’s like saying the White House sent police forces to New York, of course it doesn’t because the NYPD is here,” Osmani said.

She added that police are in every corner to protect citizens, including Serbian citizens living in the North.

“…consequently, the Kosovo police is where it is mandated to be, where it is tasked to be and is there above all to protect citizens, including Serbian citizens living in the north, to protect them from Serbian gangs, criminal gangs led by criminals who are on the list of the US, the UK and other countries, from criminal gangs who have killed Serbs, who burn Serb houses and cars,” Osmani said in an interview with VOA.

Osmani says that more can be done so that the communication with the serb community living in Kosovo is better, so that there is even more economic development, which creates new jobs.

“But integration cannot happen by dividing communities, by not letting them cooperate, by not letting them talk to each other. So, the more there is cooperation, the more there is access to each other, the more jobs are created where both Albanians and Serbs and Turks and others work in one place, the easier the integration is and the more everyone will understand that Kosovo is a sovereign and independent state, it is a permanent project, a project that will remain there forever and is not something that will only last a few years and then disappear. So it is the permanent home of all citizens of Kosovo, regardless of ethnicity,” she said.
