Last night, former chairman of the Serbian List, Goran Rakic, was physically assaulted in the northern part of Mitrovica, a Serb-majority area. The attack occurred near his residence, and reports suggest it was orchestrated by individuals connected to local criminal factions. Specifically, the attackers are believed to be associates of “Civilna Zastita,” a group linked to notorious figures like Milan Radoičić, who have been involved in regional criminal activities

The incident is said to have stemmed from a financial dispute between Rakic and Radoičić’s network. Rakic was hospitalized for his injuries but has since been released after receiving treatment

Despite the internal nature of the conflict, concerns have emerged that Serbian authorities or nationalist factions may attempt to misrepresent the attack as an assault by Albanians, fueling ethnic tensions and spreading misinformation!

This is not an isolated phenomenon. Blaming Albanians for violent incidents serves as a political tool in Serbia to perpetuate a narrative of victimization and justify Serbian claims over Kosovo. Such actions deflect attention from internal conflicts within the Serbian community, particularly those involving powerful criminal groups, and maintain the focus on ethnic discord

The event highlights the ongoing challenges in northern Kosovo, where political and criminal interests often overlap, leading to dangerous misinformation that can further destabilize the region. The importance of verifying facts and avoiding manipulation remains critical in such volatile contexts.
