Milorad Dodik sure knows how to throw a party! Just hours after Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential elections, the RS Palace in Banjaluka was glowing with American flag colors – because why not celebrate a victory while you’re also celebrating the fact that your name keeps showing up on U.S. sanctions lists?
In what could only be described as excellent timing, Dodik hosted a grand celebration for Trump’s win, perhaps hoping that the incoming administration would overlook his long-standing relationship with corruption and dodgy dealings. Surrounded by local officials and a crowd of loyal supporters, Dodik donned a “Make America Great Again” hat and waved it around like it was 2016 all over again.
But wait—just as the champagne was popping, news came in from Washington about the new U.S. sanctions against Dodik and his allies. Seems like the American government is really committed to that “fairer relationship” Dodik was hoping for. If only they could have stayed for the after-party!
