Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned Russia’s actions after two drones entered Moldovan airspace and crashed on its territory on November 10.
One of the drones was found by police in Boroseni Noi, a village in northern Moldova, approximately 45 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, while the other was located in the southern village of Firladeni, 40 kilometers from Ukraine’s border.
Both drones were “decoy” types, used to mislead Ukraine’s air defenses.
“We strongly condemn these aggressive incursions and reiterate our condemnation of Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine,” the ministry said in a statement.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Moldova has recorded 15 incidents involving Russian drones crossing into its airspace.
Moldova‘s pro-Western president, Maia Sandu, recently secured a new term in the presidential election held a few days ago, as the nation faced a critical choice between her and Alexandr Stoianoglos, a candidate closely aligned with Moscow.
President Maia Sandu spoke in Chișinău on the morning of November 4, following her victory in the presidential runoff.
She consistently calls for Moldova’s EU membership and is firmly opposed to the war in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin describes the war as a “special military operation” aimed at demilitarizing Ukraine.
The West has responded to Russia with severe sanctions impacting its economy.
As a result of the war, thousands of lives have been lost, and millions have been displaced from their homes.
