Currently, there is a serious operation by the regime and the BIA (Serbia’s Security Intelligence Agency) to divide the opposition, which has already united on all serious issues, said Dragan Đilas, the leader of the Freedom and Justice Party in Serbia.
He emphasized that this is not “the final refuge if Aleksandar Vučić remains in power,” as reported by Danas.
It has now been 11 days since “14 people were killed at the train station in Novi Sad, and no one has been arrested in this country,” said Đilas, referring to the deaths caused by the collapse of a concrete shelter at the entrance of a railway station in Novi Sad, Serbia.
“It must be repeated that 14 people were killed by corruption, ignorance, and arrogance—everything that this regime represents. When a bridge collapsed in Genoa (Italy) a few years ago, 59 people were brought to court. Here, no one is held accountable because the SNS (Serbian Progressive Party) is now looking for someone to accept responsibility, pay the price, and promise a short prison sentence, and then be released,” he said.
When asked what the next plan is, Đilas responded that his party’s plan is to insist that “Vučić can only be defeated with the truth,” because “this is the only way he cannot fight back.”
“And we are doing everything to ensure that as many people as possible learn about this, in a situation where more than half of Serbia is disconnected from the possibility of having information about what we are doing and what is really happening in this country,” he said.
“When a sufficient number of people learn the truth, then with changes in the electoral conditions (“as much as possible in a dictatorial and autocratic regime”), there will be elections in which “that part of Serbia will truly be the majority and be able to make a change.”
Đilas believes that this plan could yield results as early as next year, when extraordinary elections may be expected in Serbia.
