Poland Boosts Defense Spending in Response to Russia: Major Military Upgrades Announced

Poland is ramping up its defense capabilities, committing billions to modernize its military in response to increasing security threats from Russia. With defense spending now at 4.12% of GDP, Poland is leading Europe in military investments.

Key acquisitions include 32 F-35A fighter jets ($4.6 billion), 96 Apache AH-64E helicopters, and 250 M1A2 Abrams tanks. The country is also increasing its stockpile of HIMARS rocket launchers, Patriot PAC-3 air defense systems, and self-propelled howitzers.

Poland is deepening its military ties with South Korea, securing 180 K2 Black Panther tanks and 672 K9 Thunder howitzers, while also purchasing FA-50 fighter jets. To enhance its defense industry, Poland is investing in domestic armored vehicles like the BWP Borsuk.

These massive investments reflect Poland’s urgent strategy to modernize its armed forces and position itself as a key player in European security amid growing tensions with Russia.
