Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, Enver Hoxhaj, has commented on the recent developments in the Middle East, highlighting the opportunities that Kosovo now has to advance its international recognition process. He recalled that during his mandate, the Arab Spring was utilized to secure important recognitions from countries such as Kuwait, Egypt, Libya, and Yemen, building new relations with Sunni Arab states.

Hoxhaj emphasized that the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime presents a strategic opportunity for Kosovo to overcome Iranian influence in countries like Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq. He criticized the current government of Kosovo for lacking a clear stance and for its passive strategy regarding the state’s recognition process.

“Kosovo’s diplomacy must emerge from its self-imposed moratorium and use the current momentum to expand international recognition,” Hoxhaj stated, suggesting that recognizing the interim Syrian government could be a strategic step.
