Kosovo is set to begin producing ammunition and designing military drones, according to sources within the Ministry of Defense. The government has already selected the company responsible for building the ammunition factory, with the Turkish firm “Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi” (MKE) chosen for the task. A formal agreement with MKE is expected to be signed early next week.
The first phase of the project, which is expected to be completed within two years, will involve the production of two types of ammunition: 5.56mm and 7.62mm calibers. In addition to ammunition production, the deal will also include the design of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Prime Minister Albin Kurti is set to sign the agreement on behalf of the government. Last month, Kosovo’s government established an inter-ministerial commission to evaluate and initiate procedures and negotiations for the establishment of the factory and the laboratory for drone design.
