Kosovo’s Defense Minister, Ejup Maqedonci, has dismissed the possibility of building a new ammunition production factory in Skenderaj, a location previously home to a similar facility. Maqedonci explained that the land where the former factory stood is now part of the Adem Jashari Memorial Complex, a project of national importance that cannot be compromised for new developments.
During an interview on the “InfoNata” program on Tevë1, Maqedonci confirmed that while the ammunition factory project signed with the Turkish state-owned company is underway, the location of the factory will be carefully analyzed. Maqedonci emphasized that Skenderaj‘s former ammunition plant was not a viable option due to its strategic position within the Adem Jashari complex.
“This issue has been discussed enough,” Maqedonci said, explaining that the factory’s location would be announced at an appropriate time. The Adem Jashari Memorial Complex is considered vital for Kosovo’s national identity, making it incompatible with the new factory proposal.
While Maqedonci and other officials continue to evaluate potential locations for the factory, they are committed to ensuring that the factory remains a critical part of Kosovo’s defense strategy, while also respecting the importance of the Jashari Complex.
This announcement has sparked discussions in the region, with many focusing on how Kosovo’s evolving defense industry will balance security needs with preserving important cultural and historical sites.
