Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic revealed on Tuesday during a cabinet meeting that he has information indicating that in the coming days, the government in Prishtina will blame the Serbs for the explosion at the Iber-Lepenc canal.
Opening the “thematic” session of the Government on Tuesday, Vucic first addressed the situation in Kosovo and the responsibility for the explosion at the Iber-Lepenc canal that occurred on November 29.
“In Kosovo, our people are fighting hard for survival and political legitimacy. What I can tell you is that the Kurti regime, in the coming days, will declare the Serbs guilty without any material evidence for the diversion of the Iber-Lepenc canal, with a clear political purpose. The meaning and purpose of this is to try by any means to prevent the Serbian List from participating in the upcoming elections,” Vučić said.
So far, Belgrade has not spoken much about this case. A few days after the explosion, Vučić said that Serbia had no connection to it and that he supported the initiation of an international investigation to determine what happened.
According to Danas (Serbia), it is interesting that Vučić has raised this issue at a time when student blockades are continuing across Serbia, and they do not seem to be ending soon.
When asked whether Vučić intended to use the topic of Kosovo and the explosion at the Iber-Lepenc canal to divert attention somewhat from the protests, blockades, and discontented citizens, Dushan Janjić, the head of the Forum for Ethnic Relations, said to Danas that there have been ongoing efforts to bring the Kosovo issue back into the spotlight, to distract attention and relieve the pressure on the government, which is exerted daily by domestic problems.
Janjić emphasized that Vučić’s announcement that Kosovo would blame Serbia for the explosion in Zubin Potok is not a new development.
