At the end of the joint session between the Parliaments of Albania and Kosovo, the joint declaration arising from the session was approved.
The joint declaration begins by emphasizing that the goal of the meeting was to coordinate the national agenda for achieving our strategic objectives: Albania’s membership in the European Union within this decade, Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic integration, membership in NATO and the EU, and the final recognition of Kosovo as an irreversible geopolitical reality. It also highlights the protection of the rights of Albanians and the increased contribution of the Albanian factor to development, democratization, peace, and security in the region and beyond.
“The two Parliaments confirm the strategic level of bilateral cooperation. Within the entirety of the relations that the two countries have and develop in the region, the relations between Albania and Kosovo are of primary mutual importance. The challenges of Kosovo are also the challenges of Albania, and the successes of Kosovo are also those of Albania, and vice versa. The agreement between the two Parliaments, signed in September 2022, institutionalized our cooperation and provided a new driving force for collaboration between our governments and institutions, strengthening human communication and the ties between the citizens of both countries,” the declaration states.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca, while reading the declaration, emphasized that disagreements have always been present, but what matters is unity and moving forward.
“As for this session, I consider that at every historic and difficult moment our nation has gone through, disagreements have been present, along with opposing ideas, different opinions, etc. There were different opinions even at the time of the League of Prizren, when it was held. Scholars and historians have brought us those moments, all the possible contradictions and disagreements. Disagreements were present when the Independence of Albania was declared. There were those who opposed it, and we know all those details, and then in every significant phase through which our nation has passed,” he said.
He further emphasized that “the reason we stand here today, stronger than ever, is for only one reason. The reason is that through every challenge and contradiction we have faced, the primary option has always triumphed. And the primary option is the option of unity and the option of progress, of moving forward. And this is what has brought us here and has made us victorious at every crossroads we have faced, and I believe it will always be so with the Albanian nation.”
