A psychiatrist, atheist, who hated Islam, born in Saudi Arabia, and believed he could save Germany from Islamization… this is the profile of the suspect in the Christmas market attack in Magdeburg.
According to initial reports, Taleb A., the 50-year-old suspect arrested for the attack in Magdeburg, was a psychiatrist and psychotherapist in Bernburg. Born in the city of Al-Hufuf in Saudi Arabia, he moved to Germany in 2006 for his education. In 2016, he was granted political asylum. He had been active for years, running a website offering information on asylum procedures in Germany and advising women from Saudi Arabia on how to escape the country.
On the platform X, he expressed open hatred towards Islam, calling himself “the most aggressive critic of Islam in history.” The suspect showed support for the right-wing extremist party AfD in Germany, and at times, he discussed the idea of collaborating with the party to create an academy for ex-Muslims. He wrote on X, “Who else is fighting Islam in Germany?” He also warned, “Germany will Islamize Europe.”
In an interview just eight days ago on an anti-Islamic American blog, he spread conspiracy theories, claiming that the German state was conducting a “secret covert operation” to persecute ex-Muslim Saudis and destroy their lives.
At the same time, he alleged that jihadists from Syria had been granted asylum in Germany. Despite these radical views, Taleb A. was not known to authorities as an extremist, DW reports.
