Another war crime indictment has been filed by the Special Prosecutor’s Office of Kosovo.
In a media statement, the Special Prosecutor’s Office announced that an indictment has been raised before the Basic Court in Pristina – Special Department, against the defendant with the initials G.V., a Serbian national, on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of War Crime Against the Civilian Population, as stipulated in Article 142 in connection with Article 22 of the FRY Penal Code.
“Investigations have confirmed that during the period of the war in Kosovo in 1998-1999, the defendant committed sexual violence as a war crime against a victim of Albanian nationality.
In accordance with Articles 234 paragraph 2 and 303 paragraph 7 of the Kosovo Criminal Procedure Code, the Special Prosecutor’s Office has proposed to the Court to conduct a trial in absentia, as the defendant G.V. is unreachable by the justice authorities, and the legal conditions set out in Article 234 of the Criminal Procedure Code have been met for filing the indictment in absentia,” the statement reads.
This criminal case has now been transferred to the Special Department of the Basic Court of Pristina for further proceedings.
